The Washington State Department of Transportation is proposing a series of changes to State Route 526 that includes a new eastbound travel lane.

[Updated November 17] The Washington State Department of Transportation is holding an online open house for a plan to add capacity and make other changes on State Route 526 in Everett, also known as the Boeing Freeway.
WSDOT is pitching the project as a series of "improvements," including a new eastbound lane between Seaway Boulevard and Interstate 5, new signal operations, and improvements on a pair of on-ramps. The current proposal reflects the preferred alternative of WSDOT.
Among the benefits of the changes, the WSDOT lists reduced travel times, improved freight access, and space for future transit, including light rail.
WDOT received Connecting Washington funds for the program in 2017. The city of Everett, along with the Port of Everett and the city of Marysville have been planning the project since 2009.
An online open house will be conducted on the project through December 11.
