Roads are a common overindulgence in cities, according to this article by Robert Sulaski. "Think of it this way: they’re eating too much ice cream, and it is starting to affect their health—even if the long-term consequences are yet to be felt."
This overindulgence results in more roads than municipal governments are capable of maintaining. To prove this point, Sulaski cites analysis performed by Urban3 (Sulaski is an intern with both Strong Twons and urban3) in the city of Lancaster, California. The analysis reveals which roads in the city are financially sustainable and which aren't, while also breaking down sources of road revenue.
