A report called "The Other 9-to-5," released this week by the San Francisco Late Night Transportation Working Group, maps out late night transportation options around the Bay Area and provides recommendations for permanently expanding service.
"For the first time in a decade, San Francisco transportation officials have a roadmap to improve late-night and early-morning travel for the tens of thousands of graveyard shift workers and night owls who currently have limited transportation options unless they drive," reports Bryan Goebel.
The 27-page report, released earlier this week, gathers a coalition of "city officials, nightlife advocates, labor union representatives and others" in support of improved latenight and overnight transit service.
The report piggybacks on ongoing efforts to expand late-night transit service. In addition to a one-year pilot program by AC Transit to expand weekend transbay bus service, the San Francisco County Transportation Authority board is considering a 30-percent increase in funding for Muni's Owl service.
Goebel includes a lot of details from the report, including data about how, when, and where people are taking transit during late night hours around the Bay Area.
