Alameda-Contra Costa Transit* and Bay Area Rapid Transit are considering a one-year pilot program that would provide transit service after BART's Cinderella-esque closing time.
"BART expects to begin a late-night weekend bus service as early as December to carry riders from jobs, night clubs and social visits after the trains stop running at midnight," reports Denis Cuff.
More of the details about what the service would entail:
- "Bus riders would pay a $4.20 fare for a bus trip across the Bay, and the regular AC Transit fare of $2.10 for local trips."
- The $800,000 required for the one-year pilot program will cobble together $498,000 in state funds, $200,000 from BART, and "an estimated $100,000 to come from fares."
- The one-year pilot would provide limited bus service on Friday and Saturday nights, "until about 2 or 3 a.m. along some routes between key BART stations in San Francisco and the East Bay."
