The European Union could ban facial recognition technology in public, according to an article by Foo Yun Chee.

The evidence for the news comes from an 18-page white paper written by the EU's Commission, the executive branch of the EU.

The nad could last five years while the EU Commission considers "new tough rules" to protect the privacy and data rights of Europeans, according to Chee.

The EU Commission is seeking feedback on the white paper before making a decision.
