Faced with a worsening budget deficit, the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority (SORTA) has decided to ask voters for a new sales tax levy.
Pat LeFleur reports on the decision by the Southwest Ohio Regional Transit Authority (SORTA) to seek a countywide sales tax levy on the Fall 2018 ballot.
According to LeFleur, there are several key decisions about the sales tax levy still to be made. Options for the sales tax include a half-cent, a three-quarter-cent, and a one-cent increase. The half-cent option would not close SORTA's existing budget gap, but it would pay for increased services. The three-quarter-cent and one-cent options would close the budget gap an increase service by 22 percent and 55 percent, respectively.
LeFleur also provides insight and soundbites into the public hearing that preceded the SORTA board's decision.
