Houston's status as one of the fastest growing metropolitan areas in the country has not gone unnoticed by the healthcare industry.
Jenny Deam finds evidence of Houston's incredible rate of expansion in the rate of new hospital construction around the sprawling region. In fact, reports Deam, "At least a dozen major hospital construction projects are underway across the metro area," totaling $2 billion in investment.
Deam quotes Sid Sanders, senior vice president of facilities, construction and real estate for Houston Methodist, who says that his hospital is "just following the population patterns."
The article includes a lot more of the vital statistics on the number of hospitals in the region—where and by how much they're expanding—and the demographic figures that indicate the need for new supply. Of note from the end of the article, at least one voice of skepticism that the rate of hospital construction might outrun demand, especially given the influence of the Affordable Care Act, which is designed to keep people out of hospitals.
