Following the April announcement of Mayor de Blasio's OneNYC plan (an update to the Bloomberg Administration's PlaNYC), critics are poking holes in the energy efficiency goals included in the new plan.
"The most striking thing about Mayor Bill de Blasio’s plan to make New York City more energy efficient may be how little of it the city can implement on its own," according to an article by David Giambusso.
In question, are some of the ambitious goals of the OneNYC plan, the recently announced four-year update to PlaNYC. OneNYC "has seven energy-related initiatives as part of an overall goal to reduce city emissions. Of those, four are either state initiatives already underway or beyond the city’s purview."
Giambusso goes on to detail many of the ways in which the plans lacks the detail and legislative punch that will be required to achieve its stated agenda on issues like reducing emissions produced by privately owned buildings, replacing the city's oldest and dirtiest power plants, and adopting new smart grid technologies.
