Lauren Miura writes on the large role played by University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) researchers in the OurCounty sustainability plan recently adopted by the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors.
In all, 16 UCLA researchers helped write the plan that targets carbon neutrality for the county of 10-million-plus people by 2050.
A collaborative effort was key to the ambition of the plan—to be the boldest sustainability plan in the nation. "Stephanie Pincetl, a UCLA professor-in-residence who researches ways to make cities sustainable, said large-scale, collective action, coordinated at a high level, is needed to combat the climate crisis," writes Pincetl.
