The city of Dallas got the memo about the benefits of converting one-way streets to two-ways. Two streets in the Victory Park neighborhood will be reconfigured this weekend.
"The conversion of Victory Avenue and Houston Street from one-way roads to two-way streets will begin Friday evening," reports Brandon Formby.
The reconfiguration comes despite opposition from residents of a Victory Park development that was designed for access from one-way streets. "Residents say access to residential high-rise The House will now be more difficult," adds Formby. "They also worry that the area will become even more congested during sporting and music events at American Airlines Center."
The city and the developer of View Park, however, view the reconfiguration of the streets as "necessary to keep momentum going on a burgeoning revival," by slowing traffic and drawing people into the area. Formby mentions a few of the other human-scale improvements implemented in the area: "A pedestrian crossing at Olive Street and Victory Park Avenue has already been reconfigured and had a street light added to make it safer for people to walk."
