A federal grant designed to address climate change and environmental justice will help fund nine new bus rapid transit stations in Central Florida.
Central Florida could see a boost to transit-oriented development in the region thanks to a $300,000 grant from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA). "LYNX [The Central Florida Regional Transportation Authority] will be using the funds to build nine proposed bus rapid transit stations along a 6.25-mile corridor of SR 436." According to a quote from LYNX CEO James (Jim) E. Harrison, Esq., P.E.the LYNX website, "This grant funding will play a pivotal role in our continued commitment to improving the efficiency of our services, and we are confident that it will prove beneficial to increasing our access in the communities we serve."
Proponents of bus rapid transit (BRT) say dedicated bus lanes make bus service more reliable and efficient and shorten commute times for transit users, encouraging more people to ride transit and reducing traffic congestion.
