The plan proposes both immediate and longer-term improvements for the area, including development of a pedestrian mall.
In October, the U District Mobility Group released an area mobility plan for the area around Seattle’s U District Station. The new light rail station is scheduled to open in 2021 in the University District, near the University of Washington campus.
Phase 1 actions would take place before the station opens and include improved bus connections to the station, enhanced pedestrian and cycling access, and various urban design upgrades to the area.
Phases 2 and 3 will launch after the opening of the station. Phase 2 will run from 2021 to 2028 and involve a range of streetscape and pedestrian and biking infrastructure improvements. Starting in 2028, Phase 3 will focus on a proposal to pedestrianize a three-block stretch of University Way NE.
