According to a report by John Greenfield in Streetsblog Chicago, the Divvy bike share system is installing new docks at its stations that will both secure and charge the system’s e-bikes, cutting down on the need for Divvy staff to swap out batteries or bring bikes to a central location for charging.
According to a Divvy/Lyft staffer, “The next-generation docks are currently at 20 stations and are coming to another 150 stations by the end of the year.” The company says the new docks offer easier docking and a more intuitive user experience while “virtually eliminating” the possibility for entire stations to go out of service since each dock uses independent batteries and solar panels.
The Divvy network, which launched in 2013, expanded to the entire city in May of 2023.
