"Imperfect directions, incomplete maps, parking problems and missed delivery windows are costing delivery companies an estimated $6 billion a year," reports Jason Plautz.

Plautz is sharing the findings of a report published recently by Mapillary.

"The report surveyed 219 U.S. delivery drivers that operate both cars and trucks" to estimate that delivery companies waste "$2.5 billion in wasted salary and $611 million in extra miles driven" every year, according to Plautz.

For more on the brutal business realities of the last mile of delivery service, see a recent article by William Riggs for Planetizen that predicts delivery services will consolidate to cut costs.
