New York is the most important city in the world, but San Francisco is best positioned for the future, according to AT Kearney's "Global Cities" report.

Melia Robinson shares news of a new report from consulting firm AT Kearney that ranks 128 global cities "based on their projected levels of importance and competitiveness in the future."
The "Global Cities" report actually provides two rankings: one measures the influence of cities now, while the other projects its "Outlook" in the future. American cities dominate both lists: New York leads the 2017 Index, and San Francisco leads the Outlook.
AT Kearney's Global Cities report has been collecting data on the world's "most important" cities since 2008, when Planetizen last picked up the news.
