Jeff Speck and Spencer Boomhower created a video to illustrate how road diets work.

Jeff Speck, author of Walkable City, is featured on Citylab partnering with graphic artist Spencer Boomhower to tour four unique varieties of road diets.
The four types of road diets described by the video: "three lanes to two," "four lanes to three," "bike lanes to cycle tracks," and "40-footer lane insertion."
For each of the lane configurations, the video makes the case that the specific road diet has increased safety for pedestrian and bike travelers while incurring very little cost to vehicle capacity.
