Both phases of the extension of BART beyond the Warm Spring Station Fremont, into Santa Clara County and San Jose, have been delayed. The first extension, to the Milpitas and Berryessa stations, was expected to be complete by the end of 2019.

"BART officials had hoped to open the new Milpitas and Berryessa stations by the end of the year, as part of a long-awaited extension into Santa Clara County," reports Nico Savidge. "But the agency’s general manager revealed this week that BART is likely to miss that target, and trains probably won’t start taking passengers to those stations until sometime in 2020."
Engineering problems, numbering more than 1,000 in number, have slowed the testing process over the summer, according to Savidge.
Just the week prior, the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority announced delays for the next phase of BART's extension into San Jose. Now planned stops at First and Santa Clara streets and at Diridon Station will open in 2029 or 2030, instead of the originally estimated target of 2026.
