Walmart has announced plans to expand electric vehicle charging facilities to thousands of store locations nationwide. Vishal Kapadia, Walmart’s senior vice president of energy transformation, made the announcement by press release published on April 6.

In the press release, Kapadia announces plans to build an EV fast-charging network at unspecified thousands of Walmart and Sam’s Club locations. The company already has almost 1,300 EV fast-charging stations at more than 280 U.S. facilities. The goal of the effort, according to the press release, is to help make electric vehicle ownership more realistic for Americans.

“With a store or club located within 10 miles of approximately 90% of Americans, we are uniquely positioned to deliver a convenient charging option that will help make EV ownership possible whether people live in rural, suburban or urban areas,” according to the press release.
