The Texas Department of Transportation has a plan to leverage federal infrastructure funding for electric vehicle charging stations throughout the state.
Texas is using federal funds from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA) to fund a statewide electric vehicle charging network.
Sana Ameer reports that the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) recently approved the Texas Electric Vehicle Infrastructure Plan, crafted in coordination with the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality, State Energy Conservation Office, and the Joint Office of Energy and Transportation.
Texas has been awarded $440 million in IIJA funding to complete the statewide charging network, reports Ameer.
“Texas will also be the first state to adopt a requirement for charging stations to include the CCS standard as well as the North American Charging Standard. This type of charging plug will be used by most electric vehicles after 2025, according to TxDOT,” reports Ameer.
The news about the state’s electric vehicle charging plans came out the same week that TxDOT approved $142 billion in road investments throughout the state over the next ten years.
