A citywide network of public electric vehicle charging stations will be up and running later this year as part of a demonstration project.

A $13 million pilot project will bring a curbside electric vehicle charging network, including 60 dual-charger posts, to New York City this fall, reports Robert Walton.
"[Consolidated Edison] says the project aims to test how EV charging in public parking spaces can satisfy drivers, host communities, and charging network developers," writes Walton.
Fewer EV owners in New York City are able to charge at home, and this project will allow easier access to charging infrastructure. However, the cost to charge will be higher than equivalent gasoline prices, and experts warn this could discourage EV ownership in the future.
