"For the first time in its long history, the influential Architectural League of New York has named two Canadian design firms among the winners of its Young Architects competition...Most of the building going up in North America owes its depressing sameness to a love of formula. There's a formula for bang-up housing tracts in the suburbs and a formula for Tim Hortons franchises in the downtown...the computer is an essential tool for contemporary practice but one that fails to truly connect the hand to the eye. 'Virtual Clay' [brings] architects closer to their designs. The squishy, gel-like form is designed as a malleable mouse so that all of your fingers and your palm dictate what happens on the computer screen."
