A new report by the American Association of Port Authorities makes the case for more funding toward port access infrastructure projects.
"A recent survey by the American Association of Port Authorities (AAPA) found members identified a need in excess of $20 billion during the next decade for multimodal port and rail access," according to an article by Mischa Wanek-Libman.
The same survey found funding and financing as the most commonly cited obstacle to achieving the necessary access improvements. Some progress is already being made on these projects, however. The report says that within the next 10 years, 77% of ports are planning on-dock, near-dock or rail access projects."
The survey was conducted for the AAPA's "State of Freight III – Rail Access and Port Multimodal Funding Needs Report."
