"The Virginia Capital Trail offers one of the best cases of how well-designed bike and pedestrian infrastructure can transform communities," according to an article by Gabriel Morey as the second in a series of article marking the one-year anniversary of the trail.

Morey, credits the trail with economic successes like attracting large, new businesses to the corridor and boosting business for small, existing companies. But, "economic benefits are only part of the success of the trail," writes Morey, "it has also brought a renewed push for bike infrastructure and an increased quality of life in the communities around it."

Morey finds examples of proposed bike infrastructure improvements in cities like Williamsburg and Richmond and proposed expansions of the Virginia Capital Trail as far East as Fort Monroe.
