The creator of the Bonfonte Gardens theme park in Gilroy, CA, claims it celebrates nature. If it is sucessful, residents worry the park may change the very lifestyle it celebrates.
"[For] Michael Bonfante, this unusual botanical garden and amusement park that he opened two months ago are an evocation of a Santa Clara Valley before land developers moved in and rural towns, like Gilroy, were transformed into bedroom communities for Silicon Valley, 30 miles away. [The] 75-acre park is just in its first phase of development. Mr. Bonfante said he expects to begin building a hotel, convention center and shops by 2003. That is what troubles some residents. Already, neighbors are complaining about the noise."
