The City of Reno is adding over $260 million in public projects to cope with the region's growth.
"The Reno area's rapid growth will fuel more than $260 million in public works projects in the next few years, officials said. Among other things, plans call for construction of seven schools, two libraries, a juvenile services center and a regional dispatch center. Also on tap are plans to expand the Reno-Sparks Convention Center and to build a downtown Reno events center. The list of projects is unprecedented, said Washoe County Public Works Director Dave Roundtree. "I'm confident there hasn't been a public works effort of this size in the past," he said. On top of the short-term projects, another $1 billion in long-term public works projects has begun with the start of the U.S. Highway 395 freeway bypass in Carson City."
