New Poll Shows Londoners In Favor Of Increased Mayoral Planning Powers

A new poll of Londoners shows the majority backing a proposal to grant the city's mayor increased power to intervene in the planning process.

More than half of those surveyed said they would support granting the mayor increased power over the city's planning process, while only about one-third were opposed. This survey shows almost directly opposite results as another survey conducted a month ago in which about 54% of Londoners opposed the increased mayoral power.

"Even more Londoners said they would back mayoral intervention in planning decisions where councils have turned down applications for 'affordable' housing or recycling facilities."

" 'A recent poll commissioned by London Councils formerly the Association of London Government was based on a series of misleading questions, asking about general planning decisions, when there are no plans to remove these planning decisions from boroughs', said London Mayor Ken Livingstone."
