The city of St. Louis announced a plan to redesign some major downtown streets to improve safety, reports Jon Kipper for First Alert 4.
The proposal would reduce lane widths on three major roads, extend curbs, and add medians to slow traffic and provide safer spaces for pedestrians. “The plan also calls for a separated bike lane on 4th Street to add connectivity to bicyclists going north-south.”
According to Scott Ogilvie, program manager for Complete Streets in St. Louis, the city will also adjust the timing of stoplight cycles to give pedestrians more chances to cross.
