A newly bolstered competitive grant program administered by the Federal Transit Administration has announced a new round of funding.
The U.S. Department of Transportation today announced $13 million in competitive grant funding for local jurisdictions to plan transit oriented development.
The funding, to be awarded through the Federal Transit Administration's (FTA) Pilot Program for Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) Planning, has extra funding clout thanks to the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, which added 38 percent to the pilot program’s pot for a total of $70 million over five years, according to a press release from the FTA.
“The existing Pilot Program for Transit-Oriented Development Planning supports comprehensive or site-specific planning projects that improve economic development and ridership, foster multimodal connectivity and accessibility, improve transit access for pedestrian and bicycle traffic, engage the private sector, identify infrastructure needs, and enable mixed-use development near transit stations,” explains the press release.
