An article by Tom Edwards describes the London Ultra Low Emissions Zone (uLEZ) as "one of the most radical anti-pollution policies in the world."

In the works for years, the uLEZ will go into effect on April 8, 2019

"It is part of a 'polluter pays' ethos - the broad theory that older more polluting vehicles will have to pay to enter the congestion charging zone," explains Edwards. "It will cost £12.50 a day to enter if your vehicle is not compliant, and that is on top of the congestion charge."

A website set up by Transport for London allows people to check if their vehicles are compliant. "Transport for London's initial estimates show that 40,000 cars a day will affected along with 19,000 vans, 2,000 HGVs and 700 coaches," according to Edwards.
