For the second year in a row, New Orleans is losing more affordable housing than it is creating, according to a recent report published by HousingNOLA.
Jessica Williams shares news of a new report from HousingNOLA, a local housing advocacy organization, which finds a net loss of affordable housing in New Orleans over the past year.
Between September 2018 and August 2019 the city had a net loss of 183 affordable housing units, according to the report. "Subsidies from city and state agencies created 304 new housing opportunities and developers built eight affordable homes without subsidies, the report said. But those gains weren't enough to make up for a loss of 495 housing opportunities," explains Williams.
Add to the equation rising housing costs for renters all over the city, and the report gave the city a "D" for affordable housing effort.
