"Ontario's transportation minister says the province is planning to review highway speed limits with an aim to raise them," reports Muriel Draaisma.

Ontario Transportation Minister Jeff Yurek thinks speed limits should have been raised after they were lowered during the 1970s oil crisis, but improvements in fuel efficiency and vehicle safety warrant reconsideration of the current traffic laws.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, spokesperson for the Ontario Provincial Police's highway safety division, is quoted in the article describing the fatalities, injuries, and property damage caused by speeding.
