Friday Funny: The Onion Considers the Pros and Cons of Congestion Pricing

A few days after big news broke about the end of a political impasse between New York Governor Andre Coumo and New York Major Bill de Blasio on the subject of congestion pricing, The Onion decided to chime in on the subject of congestion pricing.

The use of congestion pricing, an extra charge on drivers for using roads where other public transit options are available, is gaining increasing consideration in New York City and other urban areas, but its detractors say the policies can hurt more than they help. The Onion examines the pros and cons of congestion pricing.

So, that's the normal part. The list of pros and cons includes satirical takes like

  • Pro: Additional revenue can be used for more roads to fill with cars.
  • Con: Could lead to unfair precedent of being charged for other activities that impact surroundings.
