Electric vehicles will be able to pull charge from a track they drive over when eRoadArlanda project is complete.
On a 1.25 mile stretch of road outside of Stockholm, electric vehicles will be able to charge as they drive."The project — called eRoadArlanda — uses technology similar to overhead cables that charge electric buses and trolleys but, instead, is built into the road. When a retrofitted vehicle senses it's on the electric road, an arm lowers onto the track that charges the car's battery," Darren Weaver and Magdalena Petrova write for CNBC. This system will work for trucks, buses and cars, and officials say it will also work in inclement weather conditions.
Drivers who pull electricity from the road will be billed for the power they use.
