Google Street View climbed 3,000 feet, straight up, to capture the images for its first-ever vertical street view.
"Today we’re launching our first-ever vertical Street View collection, giving you the opportunity to climb 3,000 feet up the world’s most famous rock wall: Yosemite’s El Capitan," according to a post on Google Official Blog. Legendary climbersLynn Hill, Alex Honnold, and Tommy Caldwell serve as the guides on this interactive multi-media presentation that takes us mere mortals to new heights.
The Google post shares some of the behind the scenes details about how the Google Street View team lugged the necessary camera gear up the side of El Capitan. The real treat, however is the Street View interactive itself, which allows multiple access points to look around, up, and, yes, down, from some of the hardest to reach points in the world.
