The office of New York Comptroller Scott Stringer has performed an audit of New York City Bike Share's contract with the New York City Department of Transportation. The audit finds poor oversight and maintenance of the Citi Bike system.
According to Next City, " a new report from [New York] City Comptroller Scott Stringer details the lows of one of the biggest brands in U.S. bike-share."
"After a close look at the system, which has 330 stations and about 6,000 bicycles, Stringer’s office reports a lag in maintenance that’s been blamed on NYC Department of Transportation’s laying off 16 inspectors last winter."
With lapsed inspection, according to a press release from the Comptroller's Office, the city's liability increases. The audit also includes eight recommendations for improvements.
