Stanford officials presented a draft redesign of the university's exclusive golf course yesterday to appease golfers and alumni upset at the prospect of losing the first hole and its fairway to a campus housing project. Developed by nationally known golf architect John Harbottle of Yakima, Wash., the redesign would ensure that although some of the architectural integrity and aesthetic appeal of the oak-tree studded course would be lost, and Stanford will still be able to boast one of the nation's most challenging courses.
