A student urbanism club built and distributed benches at some of the city’s most-used bus stops.
A student urbanism club at the University of Michigan installed six bus benches at bus stops lacking them in Ann Arbor.
As Angel Saade explains in The Michigan Daily, the club employed the tactical urbanism approach to build and install wood benches at local bus stations, where waits can be as long as 30 minutes.
The students chose the locations based on ridership data, placing benches where people might need them most. “So based on that data he had previously collected, we had the club members pretty much pick. We have another (list of) the most needed stops, so we’ll install the next ones at those,” said Levi Barense, Urbanism Club program lead.
