The rebuilding of the World Trade Center site is facing a number of problems. Currently, there is uncertainty about the size, scale, design, financing, and need for the office towers, including the Freedom Tower, on the former WTC site. Lack of funds will likely compromise the original design, where increasingly taller towers spiralled around to the 1776 ft. Freedom Tower. As costs get squeezed more and more, significant architectural features, like the towering spire, may also be changed or removed. Further complicating the project is the lack of any major tenants lined up to lease the office space. In spite of these unanswered questions, Ney York governor George Pataki is advancing the groundbreaking ceremony for a Freedom Photo-op on July 4th.
