A Canadian report calls for a more holistic approach to housing development policy and transportation planning.

A report from the Canadian Urban Transit Association (CUTA) highlights the relationship between public transit and housing, calling for a more comprehensive approach to planning that acknowledges the links between the two.
According to an article in Mass Transit, the report focuses on five policy themes that include promoting transit-oriented development (TOD), ensuring inclusivity and affordability, and “Prioritizing transit investments that pair housing and ridership growth.”
Because the problems of housing and transit are deeply intertwined, CUTA President Marco D’Angelo argues their solutions must be as well. “The report calls for coordinated rezoning that can lead to cost savings for new rapid transit projects. It also notes municipalities should accelerate the timeline for reviewing development applications within defined TOD areas.”
