The new bus lanes will operate at morning and afternoon rush hours starting today.

David Alpert reports on the new red bus lanes in Washington, D.C.
The new lanes will run along H and I streets NW, past the White House, with bus-only service during rush hours.
"The lanes will span most of the blocks between Pennsylvania and New York avenues, approximately, and where 70 buses an hour traverse the area at the peak. They’ll be active 7-9:30 am and 4-6:30 pm, with parking the rest of the time," explains Alpert.
The new lanes represent the culmination of a decade of studies about bus lanes in the District, but the current lanes also moved forward without specific study as a pilot project.
