The arrival of Amazon's HQ2 facility in Northern Virginia is expected to multiply development investment in the area, requiring more planners to review project proposals.
"Arlington County [Virginia] could see the number of major development plans triple with the arrival of Amazon.com Inc.'s second headquarters.," reports Jonathan Capriel.
Arlington County Manager Mark Schwartz is preparing for the new wave of development by hiring up. "The county could collect an additional $1 million in development-related fees, which could be used to increase staffing at Arlington’s Planning Division by as many as four people," according to the article.
Schwartz suggests in several soundbites that planners are already tasked with dealing with increased workloads as companies trying to get ahead of Amazon's arrival make development plans.
