Approval of two plans to bring new transit modes to the Atlanta region, reaching into the suburbs, mark a turning point in the transit history of the Southeast.

"The MARTA Board of Directors Thursday approved plans for a Clayton County passenger rail line that supporters hope will transform commuting on the south side of metro Atlanta," reports David Wickert.
Planetizen picked up news about the commuter rail plan in October of this year.
"The board also approved plans for a new bus rapid transit route from Southlake Mall to College Park Station," adds Wickert.
Wickert describes the two new plans for transit in the Atlanta region as the fruits of a one-cent sales tax approved by Clayton County voters in 2014. "And they’re another sign that – after decades of stagnation – transit expansion is gaining steam across metro Atlanta," write Wickert.
