A massive development plan is taking shape for lakefront property in Vineyard, Utah—on the site of a former U.S. Steel Geneva Works facility.

“The barren vista looking over Utah Lake that once housed the mighty U.S. Steel Geneva Works has been cleaned and prepared to become the home of Vineyard’s next major development — Utah City,” reports Genelle Pugmire for the Daily Herald.
An August 28 press release from the developers, The Flagship Cos. and Woodbury Corp., announced the name of the redevelopment project and touted the project’s focus on sustainability, walkability, mixed-use development, and transit oriented development.
The project will be located in Vineyard in Utah County, south of Salt lake City and along Utah Lake. The FrontRunner commuter rail service opened a station in the city in 2022, at a moment that the Salt Lake Tribune called the city the fastest growing in the state. Development planners hope that the master-planned community becomes the urban core of the county, according to Pugmire.
Utah City was designed by Jeff Speck and DPZ, the firm founded by Andres Duany and Elizabeth Plater-Zyberk.
