Big planning and code changes are on tap for the city of San Bernardino in the Inland Empire.
The city of San Bernardino, with more than 215,00o residents in the Inland Empire of Southern California, will undertake a general plan update.
Brian Whitehead reports that the city has hired Orange County-based PlaceWorks to write the general plan update.
"PlaceWorks, with whom elected officials contracted last week for $3.6 million, also will create a specific plan for downtown and update the city’s Development Code," reports Whitehead. The city is getting an assist with a $3 million from the state to help pay for the update, along with a $625,000 state grant to craft a strategy for downtown development.
The city of San Bernardino last updated its general plan in 2005, according to the article. Whitehead says "myriad factors in recent years have necessitated updates" to the plan, but doesn't mention any specifics.
