Governor Phil Murphy says $2.1 billion is needed to replace the AirTrain monorail.

AirTrain, the Newark Liberty International Airport monorail, needs to be replaced, says New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy. He wants the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey to replace it, which is estimated will cost $2.1 billion.
The monorail is a three-mile line that connects the airport to regional rail and Manhattan. Murphy says the system, which opened in 2006 with a designated life of 25 years, experiences breakdowns and that maintenance of the monorail will cost $400 million in the next decade.
