The City of Los Angeles Planning Commission has reintroduced sweeping reform of the zoning codes in an effort to streamline planning processes. "This marks the first overhaul of codes since their last revision in 1946," said City Planner Alan Bell.
As the city planning department faces a 40% cut in staff, the reform and simplification of zoning codes will make planning more effective, more efficient and mitigate staff reduction.
"Key changes include elements such as creating consistent timelines for land-use approvals; making zoning review more flexible and consistent; creating consistent procedures for modifying existing projects; and streamlining zoning approval for projects that meet specific plan standards," explains Sam Lubell.
