The Parklands of Floyds Fork has attracted development attention for years, but now the endowment that fought for the park's creation is proposing a development on land adjacent to the park to help fund the maintenance of the Parklands.
James Bruggers reports from Louisville: "The nonprofit business that helped preserve and build a 20-mile-long corridor of parks along Floyds Fork is proposing a large subdivision next to one park even as planners and residents are still working on a long-term vision for the last large area of Jefferson County that’s not fully developed."
The 21st Century Parks Endowment Inc. is proposing 588 new single-family lots and 350 multi-family homes on land adjacent to Broad Run Park. Bruggers describes Broad Run park as, "the 600-acre jewel at the southern end of the 4,000-acre Parklands of Floyds Park in eastern Louisville."
The new proposal is the latest in the ongoing sage of development near the protected open space at the fringe of the Louisville metropolitan area. Another development proposal adjacent to the parkland and concerns over Clean Water Act protections have also made the news in recent years.
