The Federal Tansit Administration offers a gree guide for estimating the benefits and costs of public transit projects.
The Transit Cooperative Research Program has released a new guidebook -- "Estimating the Benefits and Costs of Public Transit Projects" -- designed to make it easier for transit planners in state, regional, and local governments to estimate the benefits and costs of public transportation projects and present that information to interested parties. The guidebook - with companion CD-ROM - is free to anyone who requests a copy through TCRP. The guidebook includes sections on benefit-cost evaluation concepts and their application to transit projects, a summary of the basic benefits and costs of transit projects, as well as information on transit's impacts on land use, land development and economics. The CD-ROM contains an electronic version of the guidebook, allowing for quick referencing of its contents through an interactive table of contents. It also contains customizable presentation materials, such as Excel spreadsheets, to help transit agencies communicate their findings and conclusions to a range of audiences.
