Greater Greater Washington has identified a snazzy new app that informs transit riders about the crowd size on trains before they arrive. The benefit to crowded transit systems should be obvious.

Dan Malouf shares news of a new transit user-experience improvement from London. A British Thameslink commuter train "tells riders which railcars are most crowded, so they can walk to a less crowded car." The signs work in real time.
"The signs are on Thameslink's newest trains, and work via a "load weigh system" that estimates crowding based on the weight load inside each railcar," explains Malouf.
