While the fame and the glory might go to the first companies that bring self-driving cars to the market, the companies that provide the detailed, constantly changing maps will make a lot of money.

Doug Newcomb reports on "advances in mapping software, as well as acquisitions and partnerships that focus on the need for hyper-local, constantly updated maps."

The need comes from the advancement of self-driving car technology—and there are plenty of examples to cite of companies not named Google, Uber, or Tesla, making moves to support the nascent automated vehicle industry.
